Batman Arkham Knight Trailer

Erhmagerd

Rocksteady Games released the trailer for Batman: Arkham Knight, and it’s something that raises the pitch on all the excited fan boy/girl squees.  It touches on everything fans of the Dark Knight need.

Kevin Conroy as Batman?  Check.

A return to the awesome gritty sandbox city of Gotham?  Check.

An awesome combo system involving Robin, Nightwing, and Catwoman? Check.

The hype and the awesome keeps building up for this game.  Not only does it advance the story line of the Arkham series, it advances Batman.  He looks beat up, he looks worn down, and he looks like he needs all the help he can get, and help he will receive.

As more and more details about Arkham Knight are being released, a choice bit was revealed by the developers in some patch notes.  One of the DLC characters will be Barbara Gordon as Batgirl.

First off, that costume is amazing.  They made Barbara look intimidating.  They made her look like a crime fighter, someone the seedy citizens of Gotham would think twice about messing with.  You may be asking yourself, “Self?  Isn’t Barbara Gordon already in the Arkham games as Oracle?”

You’re absolutely right self, she is.  However, this is DLC content, and it is leaning towards her story being a prequel, and adding in elements of The Killing Joke.  Did the hair on the back of your neck just stand up?  If it didn’t, I know a place in Gotham that would be a great deal of help for you.

The themes that Rocksteady are throwing around in Batman: Arkham Knight are going to bring story telling in video games to a new level.  My own personal opinion is, Bruce Wayne is going to die at the end.  You might think to yourself, that would be insane?  It would, but this is going to the opus for Rocksteady.  They’ve already shown they have no qualms about killing major Batman characters.  They’ve also shown they have a deep understanding behind the Batman lore.  They want to tell a story we all remember.

There has been some concern over the total cost of the game.  It is estimated that with the DLC, Batman: Arkham Knight will venture into the $100 dollar area.  That’s beefy for a triple A title and DLC.  The question is, will it be worth it?  It’s easy to lean yes, given the track record and history Rocksteady has.

We will all have to wait and see.  It’s not too long before we can get our eager hands on possibly the last Dark Knight adventure with Bruce Wayne as the caped crusader.  To quote Samuel L. Jackson from Jurassic Park, “Hold onto yer butts.”

Batman: Arkham Knight is set for release on June 23, 2015, but you can pre-order it today!
