Canuck Exclusive Contest for Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze

Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze is not an ointment for wart removal. I mention this in case you read the above, like I did, as Donkey Kong: Topical Freeze. Sadly, no such product exists and the world is poorer for it. Neither is it a new tie-in with Booster Juice, though I know I am not the only one now craving a monkey-flavoured smoothie.

No, Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze is the newest platformer from Nintendo. Developed by the appropriately named Retro, it aims to ‘ape’ (ha-ha) the classic Rare games of ages past, known for their creative level design, incredible graphics (it made the SNES jump through flaming hoops), incredibly frustrating difficulty, and horribly cheery death music.

In order to celebrate DK’s February 21st return to our shores, Nintendo of Canada has a contest exclusively for us canucks. Apparently, Nintendo has discovered a crate in the frozen north, and has opened the package in Whistler, B.C. The package contains a number of bananas frozen in the box of ice. The video of this historic moment, hosted by Donkey Kong and someone named Ajay Fry, is found below.

While its nice to see Nintendo picking up the slack on arctic research after government funding cuts, the real story is that if you guess the number of bananas in the frozen block of ice, Nintendo will give you a Nintendo Wii U Donkey Kong prize pack, which is cool, and send you and three mates to Whistler BC, which is cold. Five runner-ups will also receive the prize pack. You can enter the contest on Nintendo of Canada’s Facebook page. There’s a 360 view of the Banana Cube there as well.
