Cuphead is a Blast From the Past!

As a fan of vintage culture and cartoons this game has me on my toes with excitement.  Cuphead is based on classic 1930’s cartoons achieving the look with traditional cel animation which is hand drawn and inked even using water colouring for the background to give that vintage effect.  There was also an original live jazz recording created for the soundtrack, how neat is that?! This will be the first game from StudioDHR and it is planned to be released for Steam and Xbox One sometime in 2015.

Cuphead can be played single player or co-op choosing from your main heroes Cuphead and Mugman. It’s a run and gun game battling bosses on each level as you travel different worlds and discover hidden secrets. There is a variety of weapons and super moves to be gained on each level and the ability to have infinite lives. StudioDHR has also said the game could have up to 30 bosses which if all goes well they will beat “Guinness World Record for Most Boss Battles in a Run and Gun Game”[25 total]). Cuphead looks to me like Sonic in classic Mickey Mouse shorts!

After watching the game play, what captures my attention the most is the eye for detail.  You don’t actually feel like you’re playing a video game.  Instead it’s like being trapped in a 1930s cartoon and having your friends watch your game play as just another spooky episode.  I love the added gimmicks such the tingling fingers of the evil flower boss, as you would see in a traditional horror cartoon of the era, the joyful bouncing wait stance of Cuphead, and of course, your classic devil villain. The game play even has a bit of vibration to the screen to make you feels as though the ‘the film is skipping’.. Wow this game is going to be a work of art!

I plan on being first in line for this bad boy when it comes out.  This is exactly what I am looking for in the perfect game and I cannot wait to see the cosplays to come from this!!
