Gallery: Bruce Timm Draws the Ladies of Marvel

For anyone who grew up in the ‘90’s, Batman: The Animated Series was probably a key component of Saturday mornings. If it wasn’t your reason to wake up, it certainly is recognizable. Artist Bruce Timm is associated with the iconic show largely thanks to his unique aesthetic that resounds with ‘60’s influence. Timm is often associated with Batman because of he wore so many hats on the show’s production. Timm was a writer, story board artist, producer, and even voice actor; fans will recognize him as having the distinguished credit of being the creator of Harley Quinn.

Well, it turns out that Timm has turned his attention to the ladies of the Marvel Universe, and his sketches are predictably gorgeous. Before continuing, let me address the elephant in the room; like so much comic art, these images are highly sexualized. Ms. Marvel and Pheonix seem to have displaced their hips in an attempt at sass, and She-Hulk is a moment away from a wardrobe malfunction. The costumes are also quite literally painted on with no definition between the texture of the skin and fabric. Timm has drawn criticism for his art in the past (many of the comments on Observationdeck.i09.com, where we found this compilation,  were negative), but these images are highly stylized and not rooted in reality and Timm’s men are presented in a similarly exaggerated manner. I for one am choosing to enjoy them for what they are, despite my critical awareness. What do you think of his interpretations of some of Marvel’s leading ladies?
