Geeks and Horror and Beer! Oh my! It’s the Bride of Simian Showcase!

On Friday I was treated to something I thought didn’t exist. A collection of people who hold the same passion for theatre, geekery and horror that have combined it so spectacularly that I literally wept from laughing. Way. Too. Much.

“Since 2008, Monkeyman Productions has created postmodern theatre with real relevancy to a culture informed by comic books, monster movies, and video games.”

I’d never heard of Monkeyman before, so I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. I was invited to an event called “Bride of Simian Showcase”, which showcases four plays that celebrate women in horror (including one written by GEEKPR0N’s own Manda Whitney). It has two musical acts as well! I also knew it would be geeky, since it was referred to me by some of my geeky friends who were involved.

So what happens when you combine a train wreck of geek and horror? Along with fans of this genre? And BEER?? A FREAKIN’ GREAT NIGHT!! Seriously, I think my face still hurts from smiling and laughing so much.

I highly recommend seeing this show before it’s gone. And if you haven’t been to The Imperial Pub since its dive days (like me), you’ll be happy to know they’ve revamped and the place is awesome now. Complete with a cool fish tank behind the bar!

Bride of Simian Showcase has 3 more shows, April 11 & 12 at 8pm and an 11pm showing on April 12th that will probably have some drunken disorderliness. So if you’re into that, I highly recommend going for that one. Tickets are $10 and seating is limited, so try to get yours in advance here, or if you like to fly by the seat of your pants, you can get tickets at the door.

Here are some highlights from the show:
