Grab your Fangirl’s Guide at Tonight’s Launch!

Are you a Fan Girl?

Sam Maggs is. After years of being a secret fan girl, Sam decided to share her love more openly. She began writing for the various geeky websites. She can now be found as an associate editor for the nexus of geeky feminism The Mary Sue; she can be heard on Toronto radio on the Edge 102.1 FM talking about geeky topics; and she can be seen as part of Cineplex Odeon’s pre-show when you go see your favourite geeky movie on the big screen.

In the last few years she’s also been a moderator at many conventions. This spring at Calgary’s Fan Expo she ran a Q&A with with Ms. Peggy Carter herself, Hayley Atwell. She’s also moderated an Agents of SHIELD panel with Ming-Na Wen. (Me? I’d still be squeeing).

She’s also written a book: The Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy. Appropriately, it was first available for purchase at Chicago’s C2E2 convention. However it is having its official launch party TODAY in association with the Toronto Comic Arts Festival.

What is it about? Check out the book’s trailer which covers the Fan Girl’s Litany which starts “I’m a geek girl and a feminist.” It serve as an introduction to a myriad aspects of modern geekery, be it gaming, cosplay, fanfiction, comics, or television and movies. It covers geeking on-line and in real life. It’s an enthusiastic welcome to a world she loves and wants to share.

While it’s officially available May 12th (you can pre-order it now!), come to the party at The Pilot tonight at 7pm. You might see many of our GEEKPR0N contributors gather to celebrate being fan girls!
