The Hamilton Zombie Short Film Festival

Hamilton, Ontario is well known as one of the most haunted cities in Canada.  But come October 18th there’s going to be another reason to be afraid, when the Hamilton Zombie Short Film Festival takes place at the Staircase Theatre.  As part of the Hamilton Zombie Walk, and sponsored by Fangoria magazine, the festival celebrates the best in Canadian and International short-subject zombie films and provides the opportunity for up and coming horror film makers to show their work.

Canada has been a hotbed for filming zombie movies – the great George Romero filmed Land, Diary and Survival of the dead here as well as the multiple Residents Evil films and the remake of Dawn of the Dead which was literally filmed blocks from my house. There are ten scheduled films in total and while seven of them were Canadian productions, three of them are internationally produced in places like Australia, Italy and the USA.  When asked his thoughts on the upcoming event, founder of Horror in the Hammer and coordinator of the festival Aaron Allen said:  “We’re giddy as ghouls at a brain buffet to be screening several World, Canadian, and Ontario premieres! The second annual HZSFF is our biggest festival yet, a definite, can’t-miss event for fans of the dead.”
