The Houses October Built Trailer Released

There are many common phobias out there, but a prevalent one is the fear of clowns. I have several friends who can’t even LOOK at a picture of a clown. So combine clowns with the “found footage” style of movie and a scary journey through a ‘backwoods-real life-world of horror’ and you have The Houses that October Built. Set in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, this movie surely looks promising.

From the producers of Insidious and Paranormal activity, this movie is sure to be creepy. The plot is simple yet relatable: Beneath the fake blood and cheap masks of countless haunted house attractions across the country, there are whispers of truly terrifying alternatives. Looking to find an authentic, blood-curdling good fright for Halloween, five friends set off on a road trip in an RV to track down these underground haunts. Just when their search seems to reach a dead end, strange and disturbing things start happening and it becomes clear that the haunt has come to them…

The film comes out October 10th with a limited release, or possibly even go straight to video, but I’m sure it’ll be worth a watch by the looks of the trailer. I personally really like the found footage genre of horror movies when they’re done correctly.  It feels real, and in a way allows the filmmakers to do more with less and leaves a lot of the scaring to your own imagination.

The movie won the “Shocker Award” at Shockfest in 2011, which takes place every year in Hollywood. The cast is mostly fresh faces, which usually allows the audience to be more afraid as they don’t have a previous relationship with the actors. In any case, it’s another scary movie to look forward to for this Halloween season.
