Nathan Fillion cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy confirmed

Ever since the first trailer debuted on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the buzz around Guardians of the Galaxy has been explosive. The Marvel franchise that was largely considered unfilmable because of its cosmic setting, complex story lines involving time travel and multiple dimensions, and a weapons expert who is a talking raccoon, is quickly building momentum as one of the biggest movies of the summer. No matter how excited fans get, it seems that there’s fresh news to rally the hype all the time, and this week is no exception.

During a Firefly panel at Wizard World Comic Con in St. Louis, a fan asked Nathan Fillion whether he would have liked a role in Guardians of the Galaxy to which he replied, “Wanting to get a part? Or maybe did…I’m just saying maybe. Maybe you’ll be surprised. Maybe check the credits.” Needless to say, the internet immediately lost its mind with speculation including rumours that Fillion would be playing Richard Rider, also known as Nova, a frequent ally of Star Lord. Director James Gunn has been very vocal on his twitter feed since production began and yesterday he posted that yes, Fillion would have a tiny role in Guardians, but reports of role as Nova were “greatly (and entirely) exaggerated”. While the news that Fillion is not Nova is a bit of a disappointment, but now people are speculating that he may appear in a space bar dressed as his Firefly character Captain Malcom Reynolds. How cool would that be?

It seems the internet is in agreement about all the things that Guardians is doing right. Fans have even spoofed the trailer by using the format and music from the latest Guardians ad and created a fan-made Star Wars trailer. If you haven’t seen it yet, you really need to, and then revisit the original Star Wars trilogy while you get hyped for the Guardians of the Galaxy August 1st release!
