Nintendo Releases New Mario Kart 8 Details

If you’ve ever sat up late at night with friends enjoying the thrill of hurling turtle shells and banana peels their way, you have no doubt been eager to find out more about the latest Mario Kart 8 being released for the WiiU in just one month. Well, Nintendo has just released details of the upcoming game.

New details include the ability to watch your highlight reels on Mario Kart TV, the debut of characters Pink Gold Peach and Baby Rosalina (because baby anything is adorable), anti-gravity driving abilities and the Sound Horn, a new item which has the power to blast away everything in the area including those pesky blue shells.

Baby! How could you not win with babies?

“Everyone loves Mario Kart,” said Ron Bertram, Nintendo of Canada’s vice-president and general manager. “It’s a franchise that brings people together for fun at a family gathering, a frenzied race against friends or just an afternoon break at the office. The numerous new features of Mario Kart 8 make this the most ambitious version yet, and one that will have players of all skill levels racing for the checkered flag.”

And on May 30, Nintendo is releasing the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Set bundle that includes a Wii U Deluxe Set system, a Mario Kart 8 game, a red Mario Wii Wheel accessory and a red Mario Wii Remote Plus controller, all at a suggested retail price of just $349.99.

Of course, if you already own the WiiU system there’s still a great deal to take advantage of. Purchase the game and sign up for Club Nintendo before July 31, and you get an additional digital game for free! And no, these aren’t the games you will find at the bottom of the discount bin. You can choose between New Super Mario Bros. UPikmin 3The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD or Wii Party U

That is more than worth the price to me. And even without all that, I’m looking forward to losing some races in the most spectacular and hilarious ways possible.

Mario Kart 8 is now available for pre-order at major retailers throughout Canada. A deposit may be required for pre-orders. See individual retailers for details. For more information about Mario Kart 8, visit http://mariokart8.nintendo.com.
