Pacific Rim 2 on Indefinite Hiatus

Friends! Terrible news!

The great Guillermo Del Toro, fresh from his loss of the project Silent Hills, is faced with a new dilemma.

Pacific Rim 2 has been denied it’s 2017 release and is pushed back. Indefinitely.

What does that mean exactly?

There were a lot of ideas thrown forth by Del Toro to punch up the sequel of Pacific Rim. Among them were things like the idea that the Jaegers would combine and that they would fight Godzilla — which I’m pretty sure is a storyline we all already enacted when we were five except this version wouldn’t have Batman in it. Then again with Ron Perlman as Hannibal Chau, all bets are off really.

I can kinda see it.

And of course, let’s not forget Del Toro’s newest acquisition; that of his friendship with Hideo Kojima. Associating these two together to work on Pacific Rim was pretty much the natural place all of us went to. We all saw the silly giant robot fight in Metal Gear Solid Four and Zone of The Enders. This thing would have been tight. Granted most of you are imagining some kind of Metal Gear combining Jaeger fighting Godzilla with this large overall discussion about if love can bloom on the battlefield. Hopefully it would have been better than that.

Alas, the project is pushed from its 2017 release date and faces potential cancellation. Likely because there isn’t enough money in the world that a studio is willing to potentially lose to fund a project of that scale. Unless they’re Disney.

Until then my friends, let us write our fanfictions of what could be…and dream such dreams.
