Pete Winning & The Pirates – Celebrate Talk like a Pirate Day with this Webseries

If your feed is full of “shiver me timbers” and “arrrs”, why not take a few minutes to see some proper pirates,  with lasers – the webseries Pete Winning and the Pirates returned with its second season this week.

Pirates! And Lasers! What more could you want?

Pirates! And Lasers! What more could you want?

This series is the realization of writer/director/actor Mike Donis decision to have a less gritty web-series when he saw so many noir style ones coming out. Well that and the knowledge that he had access to a boat!  Expanding on an 11 minute short film, it’s set in a post global warming flooded Canada. Pete Winning and his crew are on a quest and must face new challenges after the epic fights and sea battle of season one – a sea battle with real boats and CGI lasers and sharks!

The first season had four parts, and episode one of Season Two was just released. But I’m not the only one with a soft spot for it’s fun dialogue: “His name is Winning – not bait”.  The first season of the webseries has been screened at festivals around North America and it has won two  awards: Bare Bones International Film Festival Best Foreign Comedy, and Indie Series Awards’ Best Original Score. It was also nominated for three more including the Indie Series Awards’ Best Web Series, Best Lead Actor (for Mike Donis), and  Best Costume Design.

Set to an award winning original score, it was put together by a not so rag-tag team of actors, producers, writers, including Out With Dad’s Jason Leaver.  They used crowd sourcing, blood, sweat, and I’m sure  a few tears to put together this bright and fun swashbuckling adventure where the women know what’s going on, and Pete smiles his way to Winning.
