Phantasm RaVager Due in October

Phantasm is one of the scariest horror movies series in history and with good reason. Originally launched independently in 1979 by up and coming filmmaker Don Coscarelli, this movie has had 3 sequels thus far and gained major status as a cult classic. “The Tall Man”, who was played brilliantly and terrifyingly by Angus Scrimm in all four movies  ranks right up there with the Freddies, Leatherfaces and Jasons of the world, and the premise always really creeped me out. And let’s not forget those sphere things that fly through the air and suck all the blood out of your face.

The Final installment, entitled Phantasm RaVager, is rumored for release on October 7, 2014 (just in time for Halloween) and it is unclear if it will be in the theaters or will be released direct to dvd like the last two installments in the series. I personally think it should get at least a minimum release in theaters, or even just do some cool “One Night Only” Halloween screenings.

I think this movie looks wicked – I mean, it’s apparently the last in the series so I’m sure Don Coscorelli pulled out all the stops. Also, the original cast is intact with Reggie Bannister, A. Michael Baldwin and of course “The Tall Man” himself Angus Scrimm.

Here is actor Reggie Bannister talking about it:

Don Coscarelli has said that he has been inundated for years with letters from fans asking for a fifth installment in the series and this October, their prayers will be answered. Phantasm is one of the most interesting and creepy horror franchises and what it lost in sales, it gained ten fold in cult status. I hope that this movie gets the respect it deserves, but I’d imagine it will be going direct to dvd which is unfortunate. In any case, I look forward to it’s release and expect only horrific things.
