The Pull List: New Comic Releases and Top 5 for August 20
This week is filled with exciting number ones and I chose five of them to highlight in this week’s top five. But I have to give honourable mention to books like Saviors which is publishing it’s fifth issue this week, and Wicked + Devine which is going into issue three. If you haven’t been reading these titles, they’re not too far along to catch up!
The Strain Night Eternal #1
Guillermo Del Toro’s hugely successful debut novel, The Strain has spurred sequels and a television series. Now the third volume of the epic begins with this comic. The vampires are winning and humanity lives in terror of their police state. Facing extinction, a few humans fight in a desperate attempt to discover the secret to defeating the Master.
Multiversity #1
DC’s Multiverse can be confusing at the best of times, so who better than Grant Morrison to pen a series that explores DC’s various characters and worlds? Spanning six different universes, this six-part story will be told in parallel parts and feature a line-up of superstar artists to bring Morrison’s script to life.
Dark Horse Presents 2014 #1
Dark Horse’s anthology series returns with this brand new number one. Like previous series, this issue will feature superstar creators alongside new and emerging talents. This issue sees the return of Geof Darrow and Frank Miller’s Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot, along with stories by David Mack and Jimmy Palmiotti.
Wolverine Annual #1
With one month left in the countdown to Death of Wolverine, Marvel is playing the sentimental card. Wolverine and Jubilee’s relationship has always showed the berserker’s softer side. In this issue, they will surely continue to develop their father / adoptive daughter bond as they take Shogo camping.
Fade Out #1
No one writes a crime story like Ed Brubaker and with Sean Phillips providing the art, this film noir mystery is sure to be a must-read. Set during Hollywood’s golden age, the story features a film in production hell, a suspicious death of a promising starlet, and a writer who is haunted by curious nightmares.
