The Pull List: New Comic Releases and Top 5 for July 2
This week comic readers can look forward to answers. My top 5 picks all fill in the blanks; whether they’re continuing an intense story arc or filling gaps from a previous story, all of them are teasing exciting new revelations. Here’s this week’s new comic releases:
East of West #13
For anyone who reads this column weekly, you’ve probably noticed that I have more than a little love for East of West. Issue 13 will feature the Beast, the son of Death and Xiaolain, and he will make his move. After being revealed in issue 5, the Beast has been something of a mystery, so the promise of him roaming free is very enticing.
Daredevil #0.1
Daredevil recently got a new series and with it, a new lease on life. Now Mark Waid is filling in the gaps between Daredevil’s last ongoing series and this one. This issue is a one-shot that will condense the story from the Infinite Comic Daredevil: Road Warrior into one convenient book and tell the story of how the Man Without Fear ended up in San Francisco.
Grayson #1
In the wake of Forever Evil, Nightwing is no more and Dick Grayson is presumed dead. As far as the world is concerned, he is. Grayson is joining the top secret spy agency Spyral as an undercover agent and starting a new chapter in his life. The premier issue will cover Dick’s decision to stay “dead” and establish what his new life will look like.
Legendary Star Lord #1
We all have the Guardians of the Galaxy on the brain as the countdown to the movie release continues, and the trailers have made Peter Quill infamous. For anyone who is unfamiliar with the Guardians, Quill’s first solo outing will retell his origin story (don’t worry hard-core fans, you won’t be bored), and give you a glimpse of who he is and what he does when he’s not hanging out with his team.
Rocket Raccoon #1
Like Star Lord, Rocket is notorious and a fan favourite. He, like Peter Quill, is launching his own solo title this week. Rocket is a smart-ass and extremely trigger-happy but this book will go beyond that to look at what makes Rocket tick. Like Legendary Star Lord this title will run alongside the ongoing Guardians of the Galaxy series and fit into its continuity.
