The Pull List for September 17

This week both DC and Marvel are delving into the realm of weird with Multiversity, and Deadpool Bi-AnnualElektra (which has been awesome so far) is also kicking off its second story arc. All of them are part of this week’s top 5:

Deadpool Bi-Annual #1

deadpool

Before we go any further, yes I am aware that Deadpool is the modern equivelant to Wolverine in the 90’s; he’s the character Marvel throws out there to boost sales. He has a million titles and keeps joining new teams, but don’t write this one off yet because Brute Force is back! Yes, that Brute Force; the team of anthropomorphized animals with cybernetic armor. Deadpool’s absurdity mixed with the ridiculousness of this little known team? Yes please!

Oddly Normal #1

OddlyNormal_01

Fitting in at school is difficult at the best of times, but for Oddly who has pointed ears and green hair inherited from her mother, navigating the school yard is a special challenge. This story of a young girl trying to make her way in the world where she doesn’t belong, with art from Otis Frampton (of How It Should Have Ended fame), is sure to be charming.

Multiversity #1.1

multiversity

Grant Morrison’s exploration of the DC Multiverse travels to Earth-20 and focuses on the Society of Super Heroes who will face off against Earth-40’s version of themselves. DC says the book will have “pulp Super Hero actions with a post-modern twist”. Of course, with Morrison’s penchant for the strange, this title looks worth checking out to me.

Death of Wolverine #3

It’s the penultimate issue and despite the sense of dread I feel about the ultimate result, I have to admit that writer Charles Soule is staying true to Wolverine’s character and has woven an intriguing plot. Issue two left Logan in Madripoor after encountering Nuke, Viper, and Sabertooth; who knows what horrors from his past are waiting for him in the last two issues.

Elektra #6

elektra

Elektra’s first story arc put the master assassin against several dangerous foes and made an enemy of the Assassin’s Guild. The second arc starts in issue 6 and sees Elektra take the fight to the Guild. It’s guaranteed to continue it’s offering of exciting plot lines and beautiful pages that have made this title a critical and fan favourite since its start.
