The Pull List: Top 5 Titles for March 26

Another week, another pull list. This week is a big one filled with anticipated titles and final issues. Here are my top 5 picks.

pariah

5. Pariah #2

If you haven’t checked out the first issue of this underrated sci-fi published by Dark Horse, you really should. Pariah reads like a suspenseful, indie science fiction film, and like all good science fiction it holds the mirror up to the reader and asks you to consider human nature and what your own behavior would be in the same situation. It’s the story of a bunch of geniuses who are the product of genetic engineering who are trying to escape the satellite they’ve been trapped in because it’s plummeting towards earth.

serenity

4. Serenity: Leaves on the Wind #3 (of 6)

Brown Coats have been dying to know what happens to Mal and his crew since River took over pilot duty at the end of 2005’s Serenity. Now Joss Whedon is acting as executive producer with Zack Whedon writing, and they are giving fans their wish. The story continues in comic form and picks nine months after Serenity left off. There were bound to be consequences to what they found on Miranda, and now they have to face them. Every Firefly fan should definitely be paying attention to this issue as the crew races to save Zoe.

300px-Guardians_of_the_Galaxy_Vol_3_13

3. Guardians of the Galaxy #13

Forget about the fact that the Guardians are finally going to see their big movie release in a few months. Forget about the fact that they are a completely epic team. This is a book to pay attention to because it’s the final issue of their first ever cross over with an X-Men team, the All New X-Men to be exact. The Trial of Jean Grey is a six-part crossover that takes place after the original X-Men team is pulled forward in time and teenage Jean Grey is tried by the Shi’ar for the crimes she committed as an adult when possessed by the Pheonix force. Between revisiting one of the greatest sagas in comic history, and Rocket Raccoon’s general awesomeness, why wouldn’t you read this story arc?

forever evil

2. Forever Evil #7

This is another big story arc ending this week. DC’s seven-part Forever Evil is the first line-wide crossover since the publisher rebooted all of their titles and created the “New 52” and spins out of the events of the Trinity War. There’s a lot at stake as the Crime Syndicate battles the Injustice League and the fate of one of DC’s best loved heroes is in question. This story also promises big and lasting changes to the DCU, so there’s a lot riding on this issue.

sandman 2

1. Sandman Overture #2

Twenty years after the release of Sandman, Neil Gaiman is gifting us with the prequel. You may remember that Sandman kicked off with Morpheus’ escape from captivity, here we get to read the story of his capture. Artist J.H. Williams III creates whimsical dreamscapes to accompany Gaiman’s story, the effect is mesmerizing. It may have been a twenty-year wait for the first issue, but with several reprints of it since its release in October 2013 (yes, we’ve been waiting five months for issue two), it is easy to find and well worth catching up on if you aren’t already up to date.

Honourable mention goes out to Batman: The Dark Knight #29 which also wraps up with this issue, Black Science #5 for being a great story, and Iron Patriot #1 because I’m a big fan of James Rhodes and even though I really believe he belongs in War Machine armour, I’m just happy he’s getting his own book.
