San Diego Comic Con Preview

Is there a better time of year than Comic Con? This weekend the internet will be flooded with teases of upcoming movies, previews of games still in production and of course, a huge parade of celebrity appearances from San Diego Comic Con. Each year, the show grows bigger and more extravagant and this year is no exception; the line-up is packed with more guests, panels, and previews then should be allowed under one roof. Here’s a small taste of what is planned for the world’s biggest celebration of pop culture.

All Star Guest List

What is Comic Con without an appearance by almost every celebrity? This year attendees can hope to meet everyone from comic creators like Scott Snyder and Bryan Lee O’Malley to actors like Kevin Sorbo and Evangeline Lilly and even famous podcasters, for example talent from Welcome to Nightvale will be doing a group signing. While reaching the front of an autograph line may be a challenge with Comic Con’s astronomical attendance, all guests are required to sign the official Comic Con Souvenir Program Book once per guest free of charge.

Amazing Cosplay

The Masquerade is something to be seen. Fans spend all year meticulously crafting beautiful and original costumes in the hopes of being recognized. Of course, it’s not all about the glory; there are medals, trophies, memberships to next year’s convention and gifts from companies like DC Comics, Lucasfilm, and Sideshow Collectibles. Past judges have included professional costume designers like Allison Leach professional props masters like Dragon Dronet.

Previews

The Marvel Studios: "Thor: The Dark World" And "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" - Comic-Con International 2013

Comic Con is infamous for being the place that major studios, directors, and actors tease their new projects. Remember last year when Tom Hiddleston appeared in his Loki armor to show preview footage of Thor: The Dark World? That sort of thing is par for the course at Comic Con. This year we will get information the television adaptation Constantine, a discussion of the upcoming Battlestar Galactica movie, a preview of the new Ridley Scott produced series Halo: Nightfall, amongst other tidbits. You can be sure most major entertainment studios are planning on dropping big news when their turn in the spot light comes; we may even learn more about Marvel’s cinematic Phase 3.

The Exclusives

This year’s list of exclusives seems unending! Some of the treats available include an exclusive 20th anniversary Sailor Moon doll that’s a product of a partnership between Groove USA and Tokidoki, a Jurassic Park poster featuring the art of Mark Englert, LEGO will offer four exclusive mini-figures including Bard the Bowman, and Marvel will have its usual line up of swag. One of my favorites is Blizzard’s adorable Funko Pop! of Kerrigan seen above. Of course this is just a small sampling of the hundreds of offers that will be available on the show floor.
