A Sneak Peek at Evolve

Turtle Rock Studios has released something awesome onto the world. The makers of Left 4 Dead have created a new group survival FPS.  A select number of people were lucky to get their hands on an alpha key for their new game, Evolve.

GEEKPR0N got to jump into the Alpha and see what the fun is all about.  Let’s put a big emphasis on the word fun.

Evolve shows its lineage, a lot of the same pack tactics from Left 4 Dead have to be applied to Evolve.  If you’re a fan of the zombie survival, you know that going off on your own is courting death.  It may be the alpha, but Turtle Rock’s modus operandi stays consistent.  Teamwork above all else, if you want to succeed.

They have found a sweet spot between team play and individual skill.  Everyone has to know when to step up and take the lead, while knowing when your skills don’t apply, and falling back.  If you play the trapper, you have to be able to read the environment and see what it’s telling you.  As a healer, you have to know when to heal and when to get out of range of the monster.  Support is about knowing who to shield and when, while assault is knowing when to play the ranged game, and when to get up close and personal.  Evolve forces you to evolve your game play and team work.

Evolve can be a hard fought game, or it can be steam rolling the opposition.  Playing as the monster isn’t an auto win.

You have to out think four other players.  Do you try and flex your muscle, or do you try stealth and hiding?  it is not an easy game to play, and the learning curve is steep.  It is, however, a lot of fun.

To check out the maps and characters you can play, visit the Evolve Game site.  It is the alpha, so things can and will change.  New characters and maps will be added, skills and weapons will be modified.

First impressions are looking great, and it looks like Turtle Rock will have gamers cowering from giant monsters instead of zombies.

Evolve is scheduled for release on February 10th, 2015, and can be pre-ordered now!
