The Walking Dead Recap – Daryl And Carol’s Journey to Find Beth

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS! This weeks episode showed us everything that happened when Daryl and Carol took off after the car that had taken Beth. We were also treated to a few flashbacks that really did wonderful character building for Carol.

Another warning that there will indeed be spoilers!

Now…lets begin, with the main points of the episode:

Carol flashbacks– Throughout the episode we were treated to flashbacks and moments that did a wonderful job continuing to build Carol. Her character has had so much growth since back in season 1. The first flashback showed us everything she went through after Rick banished her from the group back in season 4. She struggled, got emotional, but still survived. Then we see the moment where she drove up to the prison after the Governor and his new people attacked. It was good too see exactly how she got to the prison. Then throughout the episode we were showed more moments, including when she burned Karen and David and also when they buried Lizzie and Mika. We’ve seen Carol have to go through a lot and that’s what has made her so much stronger and ready to take on things.

Noah– Last time we saw Noah, he escaped the hospital where Beth is currently still at, and now we know that Noah is who was in the bushes and the person who Daryl was telling to come out. When he sees Carol and Daryl, he actually holds them at gun point and takes their guns and Daryl’s crossbow. At the end of the episode, Noah gets caught under a huge bookcase and Daryl decides on leaving him there and taking all their supplies he took. Carol tries to make Daryl help, but he continues not wanting too. A walker falls on top of the bookcase and Daryl then shoots and arrow at the walker and saves Noah. That’s when Noah reveals he knows about the hospital and has met Beth there and that she’s still there. Then they notice one of the cars that the hospital people are in driving up to where they are, so Carol, Daryl and Noah try to ninja their way out of there, but as soon as Carol runs out she gets hit by the car. Daryl tries to run after her, but Noah tells him that it’s okay and they’ll take care of her. He also says that there’s a lot of man power at that hospital and that’s when Daryl says they have the power as well. So they drive off to the church where Rick and the group is.

Carol and Daryl with the van– Carol and Daryl got in a van that has the same cross markings as the cars the hospital people used and it was dangerously dangling from a bridge, so when a herd of walkers came by they had to get into the van and locked it up. So when they realized they were about to take a massive plunge, Carol held Daryl’s hand and they both braced their selves for a plunge and survived.

Carol and Daryl growing closer as friends– Throughout the episode we notice just how much they’ve grown as friends. When they noticed woman and child walkers, Daryl immediately held Carol back and told her she didn’t need too. The next morning Daryl took the child walker out of it’s misery as a walker and burned the body. Carol showed much appreciation and gratitude that she didn’t have to deal with something like that again. Carol also talked about her past with Sophia and her husband Ed. She and Sophia left and went to a shelter, but still went back to Ed.

A stronger Daryl– Daryl seemed to turn into a whole new person in this episode. He seemed stronger and yet maintained his normal self of caring. He’s ready to take charge when need be and can back off when he knows something is not what he wants to deal with. It’s like a season 2 Daryl again, this time he’s trying to find Beth and he knows she’s alive and will stop at nothing to get her back safely.

This episodes purpose seemed like it was making us see how much Carol has grown and how important she is. They did a wonderful job with tying in whatever happened to her in this episode, with past moments. We learned a lot about who she is and who she was. I, for one, hope this wasn’t an episode that was foreshadowing her death, because it seems like she’s going to have a rough time trying to pull through. Hopefully she does, because Carol FTW! Carol: “You said we’d get to start over. Did you?”
Daryl: “I’m tryin’. Why don’t you say what’s really on your mind?”
Carol: “I don’t think we get to save people anymore.”
Daryl: “Then why are you here?”
Carol: “I’m trying.”

Carol: “How did we get here?”
Daryl: “Don’t know. We just did.”
