The Walking Dead Recap – The Stage is Set For The Mid-Season Finale

SPOILERS AHEAD! This episode focused on setting the stage for the showdown coming in season 5’s mid-season finale. Synopsis below.

Again, spoilers ahead…

Father Gabriel makes a run for it. – Now, we’ve all suspected something wasn’t right with the reverend, despite his cowarding demeanor. This episode pretty much confirmed he’s probably not going to change afterall – continuing to be terrified of everything going on around him. Carl attempts to reassure him by offering to teach him how to survive but instead retires to his room, visibly shaken. Turns out he has a nifty little escape route out of the church through the floor. Now I really want to know why that saying was carved outside the church.

Should Beth trust that doctor again? – Beth sticks up for keeping Carol on life support, leading Dawn to have sympathy and giving her keys to the medicine cabinet so she could help her (after ordering the guard to end her support). Before getting the meds, Beth has to trust the doctor again to administer the right one. Let’s hope she pulls through!

Rick, Daryl, Sasha, Tyreese, Sasha and Noah plan their big rescue of Beth and Carol – Badass Rick is back and wants to quietly attack the hospital however Tyrese and Daryl convince him of trying a peaceful tradeoff instead (anyone else notice more of the angel wing symbolism on Daryl here?). Rick and Sasha befriend of one their captured officers (don’t they ever learn?) and are obviously betrayed. This is definitely getting setup for a huge mid-season standoff!

Abraham continues to have a hard time with Eugene’s secret and Maggie tries to help him – Abe’s a mess and continues to be self destructive after losing all hope and redemption. Maggie eventually breaks through his pain and anger.

Glenn, Tara and Rosita become closer friends – Their friendship continues to grow – quickly turning them into more of a family.

Eugene wakes up – After a few moans it seems like Eugene finally wakes up… or does he?

What did you guys think of this episode? How do you think the mid-season finale will go? Will Carol pull through? Should they have gone with Rick’s plan instead? Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do in that world, even if it’s not peaceful unfortunately.
