Wil Wheaton announces The Wil Wheaton Project

Is there anything Wil Wheaton can’t do? With his recent announcement celebrating the launch of The Wil Wheaton Project, it seems his reach is limitless. The former star of Stand by Me and Star Trek: The Next Generation, is also an author (if you haven’t read Just a Geek, you really should) and frequent guest star on shows like The Big Bang Theory and The Guild as well as hosting Tabletop on the Geek and Sundry’s YouTube channel; now he is adding television host, writer and producer to the mix.

Wheaton has made a career out of his fandom, his blog is infamous, his Tumblr is legend and he makes a show where he invites celebrity guests to play board games! So it shouldn’t be a surprise that Syfy has picked up 12 episodes of The Wil Wheaton Project set to debut on May 27th at 10pm.  The show will feature Wheaton running through his favorite things in pop culture each week, Wheaton calls it similar to “Talk Soup for geeks”. In his blog post, he says that he intends to focus on featuring the type of genre entertainment that appeals to nerds, and who better to recap a week’s worth of geek news?

Wheaton is a king amongst nerds. He manages his fame with grace because even though he was part of one of the biggest science-fiction series of all time, he is also a fan himself. This makes him a perfect candidate to be the creative force behind this show. With Wheaton at the helm, in the writer’s room, producing, and in front of the camera, it’s a guarantee that he’ll tackle the big news and talk about the things that interest us, and be hysterical while he does it!
