Will Wolverine 3 be Old Man Logan?

I can’t even imagine the deafening roar that must have come from the Fox Panel in Hall H of San Diego Comic Con when Hugh Jackman took the stage to talk about the future of the X-Men movie franchise. Traditionally, convention attendees are treated to the latest news about the biggest fan-favourite franchises and this year is far from an exception. San Diego gave X-fans a preview of the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse but the big gossip comes from Jackman himself. When he hit the stage, he told the audience that he had three words for them, “Old Man Logan,” he said, “read into that what you will.”

The real question is how much weight can we put on Jackman’s comment? Rumours have been swirling for some time that the third instalment of Jackman’s solo outings wearing the claws would be an adaptation of Mark Millar’s 2008-2009 story arc. The eight-issue series saw Wolverine retire from his life as a hero and try to settle into normalcy, but when his past won’t leave him alone, he joins Hawkeye for one last adventure. The problem with getting our hopes up that we’ll see this epic come to the screen is that Fox doesn’t have the rights to many of the characters that are so integral to the story. On top of that, Old Man Logan is out of continuity with the rest of the universe that Fox has built. It happens in an alternate, post-apocalyptic timeline with too rich a back story for the average summer movie goer.

It’s no secret that the intense fitness regimes have been hard on Jackman, and that he is not getting younger. He reported that he would be hanging up his claws not that long ago, and speculation began about what that would mean for the franchise. Jackman has been very public about the grueling regime he has had to take on in order to put appropriate bulk on his wiry frame; as he ages, the transformation cannot be easy. So was Jackman just joking, or can we truly anticipate Old Man Logan to hit the big screen? We are eagerly waiting to find out!

I would like to see The Death of Wolverine adapted, I guess they have rights on most of those characters at least.
Old Man Logan without Hulk, Hawkeye, Red Skull and others seems to be just using a name for pure marketing and not keeping the base of the story.
