Review: Paul

I’ve known about Paul for a few years, and I have to admit I had impossibly high expectations for this movie. I don’t think Simon Pegg has ever done anything I didn’t like, and I still believe Spaced is the greatest show that nobody’s seen.

Paul tells the story of 2 sci-fi nerds from England who come to America for the first time. Starting at the San Diego Comic Con, Graeme Willy (Simon Pegg) and Clive Collings (Nick Frost) drive across the country visiting every key extraterrestrial site. Along the way, they meet Paul (Seth Rogen) an alien fugitive being chased by the government.

The performances from Nick and Simon were stellar was always. The bromance between them is unlike any other, but I guess that comes easy when it’s genuine. Seth Rogan as Paul was hilarious. I found myself forgetting he was an alien at all! With Kristin Wiig as a one-eyed, bible thumper, and Jason Bateman and Bill Hader the government agents, Paul was highly entertaining.

I do, however, feel this movie would have been a lot funnier had the trailers not ruined the good jokes. Seriously Hollywood, stop giving away everything. This is one of the reasons piracy is at an all time high.

Bottom line, I liked it. Not as much as I’d hoped, but it was still a great movie.
