The 6 Most Exciting Comics Announcements From SDCC

We were all excited to see footage from Batman v Superman, Star Wars, and Ash Vs. Evil Dead, but this year’s San Diego Comic Con gave us plenty of comics news to get excited about – here are 6 of the titles we’re most looking forward to in 2015:

  1. The Legend of Korra will continue in a new series at Dark Horse! The series will be written by Korra co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino, and while we don’t know too much about it yet, we’re promised that Korrasami shippers won’t be disappointed!
  2. To celebrate Robin’s 75th anniversary, DC will be publishing several new titles focused on the character, including Batman & Robin Eternal – a weekly series following Batman Eternal. Casual and diehard batfans alike will find some creators they like on this huge list of talent: headed by Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV, the series will be written by Genevieve Valentine, Ed Brisson, Tim Seeley, Steve Orlando, Jackson Lanzing, and Colin Kelly. Art duties will be shared by Tony S Daniel, Paul Pelletier, and Scott Eaton, with more maybe to come. Weekly release is tough to pull off, but with this many people working on the book, Batman & Robin Eternal is a series to watch for.
  3. Vertigo announced 12 new series starting this fall. Veterans and new creators alike make up this new line. Highlights include Art Ops by Shaun Simon and Mike Allred, Clean Room by Gail Simone and Jon Davis-Hunt, Last Gang in Town by Simon Oliver and Rufus Dayglo, and The Twilight Children by Gilbert Hernandez and Darwyn Cooke.
  4. Grant Morrison is the new Editor-in-Chief of Heavy Metal, and promises to keep the magazine “punk rock.” The magazine also announced new titles including Interceptor, a horror/sci-fi miniseries by Donny Cates and Dylan Burnett.
  5. Along with the Deadpool trailer, Marvel announced that Joe Kelly and Ed McGuinness will be returning to the Merc with the Mouth with Spider-Man/Deadpool. They didn’t say how many issues the series would run for, but long-term Deadpool fans should be excited to see some of his defining creators back on his title.
  6. At his panel, Joss Whedon announced that he’s writing a 6-issue miniseries for Dark Horse called Twist about a “Victorian, female Batman.” He didn’t divulge any further details about the comic, but his name and that tease will be enough to get many fans on board.
