Drunken Reviews: Deadpool’s New Game

Since NOTHING has been released about this game yet, there are some SLIGHT SPOILERS. You have been warned.

Let’s just get this out there before we get into any details: I was not impressed. Seeing all the trailers and advertising stunts to pump up the hype for this game got me excited, I’ll admit. Managing to get my hands on the game and seeing the game-play first-hand was disappointing, to say the least. Here’s why…

The game-play was very weak from the very beginning; there were several clipping issues with certain animations and passing through doorways that became hard to ignore. There were also lots of jump glitches during platformer portions of the game.

The Challenge Mode is very similar to the Challenge Mode in the Batman: Arkham series, the player is in an arena fighting wave after wave after wave of enemies until you slowly lose your mind and turn the game off.

The single player game-play featured a lot of Deadpool’s witty one-liners (let’s be honest, that’s really why we are buying this thing… right?) but here is the kicker, they kind of fizzled after a while. Not only do they cycle through every line in your first play through (killing ANY desire to play this game a second time) but they also don’t really stay 100% true to Deadpool.

There are tons of cameos from some Marvel babes… er… I mean favourites such as Psylocke, Domino, Rogue, Wolverine, etc. I was a touch disappointed when Cable was introduced, the fact that Deadpool is totally gay for Cable was not included at all. There are also lots of D-list villains such as Vertigo, Arclight and Blockbuster.

Overall this game is simple. It is your average, run-of-the-mill hack and slash, and halfway through the game you can have everything upgraded and purchased. The achievements are easy to earn, the single player campaign is a brief 4 to 6 hours, and this game completely caters to new Deadpool fans. (Even that is a stretch: one of Marvel’s greatest anti-heroes has been re-invented with multiple odd voices in his head that randomly break the fourth wall.)

I will admit, however, this game did make me laugh quite a bit as it was filled to the brim with jokes about dicks, farts and yo momma. Retailing at $49.99, this game is not worth it – even drunk I had a hard time making it through the campaign. I could see this game being worth maybe $30 – $39.99, but even that is pushing it a bit.
