Halo 4 Web Series: Forward Unto Dawn – Watch all 5 episodes here

In anticipation of Halo 4 releasing tonight at midnight, I spent yesterday getting all caught up on the new Halo 4 web series: Forward Unto Dawn. This new web series put together by Microsoft and 343 Industries, chronicles young cadets and the challenges they follow with their training until the inevitable happens and they’re forced into battle early.

Executive Producer, Josh Feldman, provides the synopsis:
Set against the backdrop of a UNSC military academy, a group of highborn cadets are training to be the next generation of soldiers in the UNSC’s ongoing war with insurrectionists in the outer colonial planets. Among these cadets, Thomas Lasky struggles with his doubts about this war, and with the burden of expectations he may not be able to carry. As Lasky comes to terms with his potential as a military leader, the terrifying alien alliance known as the Covenant arrives and turns his world upside down. Inspired by the Master Chief, he must decide what it means to be a hero.

“This is something that delivers for the diehard fans, that know everything in the universe. We want to make sure they’re taken care of,” said series director Stewart Hendler.

“But on the other side, this is something that can be watched by people who have never heard the word Halo. We hope it’s a standalone story about cadets, and once they’re in this and engaged they can learn more about what Halo has to offer.”

“If you watch this and then get Halo 4, you’ll be rewarded,” said Kevin Grace, managing editor of Microsoft’s 343 Industries, which manages the Halo franchise. “Not in huge, obvious ways, but if you do them both, the things the characters do will be a bit more meaningful.”

Although a wee bit slow moving at first due to character development, (trust me it gets way better), I was really impressed by the quality of this series and I’m actually hoping that it continues post-launch although this is just a promotional series. You’ll even recognize some actors here from Supernatural and even Narnia.
