Nike Working on Back to the Future Shoes

Back to the Future is arguably one of the greatest movie trilogies of all time, especially in the sci-fi world. This is the movie that made the Delorean cool and put the idea of a Hoverboard in our minds. This week it was announced by Nike that again life will be imitating art again when they release the upcoming “Back to the Future 2” shoes.

Nike has designer Tinker Hatfield on board who originally designed the shoes for the movie in 1989. According to him the shoes will have light up and self tightening capabilities, just like in the movie. The shoes will be an updated version of the limited-edition 2011 Nike MAGs.MAG Shoes From Back To The Future II Marty McFly_9154

Nike plans to release the shoe to coincide as part of the 30th anniversary celebration of the original “Back to the Future” movie and the upcoming release has been rumoured for a while but was was confirmed at last week’s Agenda Emerge trade show in California. Designer Tinker Hatfield said they were still in development and stressed that there were still “11 and two-thirds months left in 2015,” which basically means don’t expect the shoes right away but in the future. Though it is not confirmed when we will be getting these shoes, it is clear that this is happening.

If you were a kid in the 80’s, Back to the Future was an instant classic and an integral part of your childhood. It may have taken a while, but it seems the world is finally catching up with the films. First with the design of the Hoverboard by Hendo, and now the shoes by Nike. But to be honest, I wouldn’t hold your breath for the Delorean to come back into style – unless it’s equipped with a flux capacitor. Soon we will all be able to strut our stuff Marty McFly style.
