The Pull List: The Top 5 Titles of August 5
It’s Wednesday which means that we’ve got a whole new set of titles to watch out for in this week’s Pull List!
DETECTIVE COMICS #43 | DC COMICS

Harvey Bullock and Renee Montoya team up with Batman to help track down a band of thieves that are terrorizing Gotham. Buccellato has taken over the writing for the final two issues of his run on Detective Comics with Manapul and the new creative team of Peter J. Tomasi and Marcio Takara will take over the book starting with #45. Buccellato/Manapul had a solid run on Detective Comics and I really liked the art and how they made Harvey Bullock a more prominent character.
WE STAND ON GUARD #2 | IMAGE COMICS

Canada and the United States are at war in this futuristic tale written by Brian K. Vaughn (Y: The Last Man and Saga) and drawn by Vancouver illustrator, Steve Skroce. The story takes place over 100 years in the future after the United States inexplicably bombs Canada turning the country into a warzone. We follow a team of Canadian guerilla fighters called the Two-Four (like a case of beer), as they fend off American invaders and giant robots in this second issue of a six issue mini-series.
CIVIL WAR #2 | MARVEL COMICS

After a somewhat confusing set-up with an event mirroring Civil War #7, we discover the United States has been divided down the middle with two different factions. Captain America controls the West (The Blue) and Iron Man controls the East (The Iron). A failed peace treaty ends with the attempted assassination of Steve Rogers and the murder of Miriam Sharpe — which causes Steve to decide that he needs to end this war once and for all. This Secret Wars tie-in has been very different from the original Civil War but at its core, it still maintains some of the ethical battles between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: RENEW YOUR VOWS #3 | MARVEL COMICS

This has been the most controversial Secret Wars book so far by bringing back two elements of Peter Parker’s life that were either scrapped or deemed a mistake. They brought back Peter and MJ’s baby from the Clone Saga and they ignored the One More Day arc to keep Peter and MJ married. So for everyone particularly bothered by the One More Day Arc, this book gives a glimpse of what married life for Peter could have been like and it definitely shows that you can still tell good stories in that world.
MS. MARVEL #17 | MARVEL COMICS

The much anticipated team-up of Carol “Captain Marvel” Danvers and Kamala “Ms. Marvel” Khan has arrived! Kamala Khan finally gets the chance to stand next to her idol Carol Danvers as thay do battle against a threat that could spell the end for Captain Marvel.
