BBC Confirms Found Doctor Who Episodes!

After much speculation, the BBC has actually confirmed that yes indeed, some classic episodes of Doctor Who have been found!

They will confirm later this week exactly how many and which episodes have been found with an announcement at a press conference in London this coming Thursday. We should also be given info on how we’ll be able to watch these lost episodes.

Over the years many rumours had been passed around that classic episodes had been found, when they indeed, had not. Although there were smaller finds in 1999, 2002 and 2011, this is the first time a rumour of recovered episodes has been confirmed since all four installments of the 1967 Tomb of the Cybermen were discovered in Hong Kong in 1991.

Many of the original episodes were wiped in the 60’s and 70’s to save on storage in the archives. Throughout the years since, the BBC has been trying to track down the 106 lost episodes, possibly to be found on foreign copies for broadcasters around the world that hadn’t been erased.

This is very welcome news for Doctor Who fans for the upcoming 50th anniversary of Doctor Who on November 23rd. A special episode will be aired on that date with the current Doctor Matt Smith and fan favourite David Tennant before Peter Capaldi takes over as the 12th Doctor.
