First Female Doctor Who Writer Since 2008. Find out… Who

It’s been a while since Doctor Who had a female writer pen an episode or two and now we finally get to see one again! The last time we saw a female writer was Helen Raynor, who wrote during the Russell T. Davies era and penned episodes like Daleks in Manhattan and The Poison Sky.

Catherine Tregenna is the lovely writer who will be writing an episode for series 9 and adding her name to the short list of female writers. It’s a huge step for hopefully more female writers coming aboard the coveted Who writers list. Tregenna has a great resume of writing including Law & Order: UK, EastEnders and Torchwood. One of her Torchwood episodes was nominated for the 2008 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form.

For a long time now, we’ve all hoped that Doctor Who would bring on more female writers like Helen Raynor – who’s episodes were some of the best story arcs during that particular series. Sandman’s Neil Gaiman has also spoken out a lot for the need to diversify Doctor Who’s writers.

What do you guys think? Is it time to bring in even more female writers? Excited too see Catherine Tregenna’s episode? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below!
