Laura’s Stupid Lists: 5 Films You Might Not Remember You’ve Seen.

Whilst internet browsing like I spend most of my life (sigh), someone had asked a question pertaining to a film they had seen growing up…or they thought it was a film, at least. They weren’t sure if it was actually a real thing, or just a weird dream. It turned out it is a film, and I was actually shocked since that was literally the first time I have ever heard someone else talk about it.

I seem to have a thing for films that very few people have actually seen, or at least don’t remember they’ve seen it until something jogs their memory. They’re all from my childhood, they’re all kind of messed up…maybe that explains a lot of things.

In no particular order, I bring you…5 films I loved as a child, that you may or may not remember also loving…or being totally freaked out by.

1. The Phantom Tollbooth

This seems to hold the gold medal for “what the hell was that movie about the weird things and the kid who went through a box into another world with a car and a clock dog and oh no I’ve gone cross-eyed halp” kind of memories. I’m 29 and I can count the people who have seen this one one hand.

2. Dot and The Kangaroo

This is probably the least-known film on the list. A little girl gets lost in the Australian wilderness, and meets up with a mother kangaroo who has lost her baby joey. I haven’t seen this since I was little but I remember parts of it vividly. If you remember anything about this movie, it will definitely be The Bunyip. (Fuck that guy, seriously. Nightmare fuel.)

3. A Flight Of Dragons

This movie totally ruled when I was little, because who doesn’t like dragons and wizards and magic?

4. Return To Oz

Can’t remember what this one was about? Electro-shock therapy, a talking chicken, Wheelers, and screaming heads. Right on, Disney! And yes, that’s Fairuza Balk in her first role.

5.  Baby: Secret of The Lost Legend

The first dinosaur movie I ever saw. All I’m gonna say about this one is 1985.

I don’t apologize if any of those clips bring back horrible childhood memories. EMBRACE THE CRAZY!

  1. Oh.  My.  God.  The Bunyip.  I think Dot and the Kangaroo might be a movie I have been trying to locate for 15 years.  I remember a flick where there was something like this, but my dumb brain turned Bunyip into “wombat”–no wonder Google was never able to help me.  I need to find this now.  Thank you!!!
