The Tick Lives?

The Tick – one of the greatest and funniest anti-heroes ever created. For those of you who don’t know about the Tick, here is the lowdown. Originally designed as a mascot for a comic book newsletter in New England in 1986, he found a second life in his own series of comic books starting in 1988 but it wasn’t until 1994 that the Tick became a household name thanks to the animated series. His popularity grew further through the video game, as well as the live action series in 2001. Though the series was quickly cancelled after only 9 episodes due to basic lack of interest from it’s network (Fox) as well as budget constraints, it has gained a cult following over the years.

In the last week it has been reported but not confirmed that Amazon will be relaunching the series online with the writing skills and blessing of original creator of the Tick, Ben Edlund, and will feature original star Patrick Warburton (you know, Puddy from Seinfeld?).

The Tick 3

I think it would be great if this show came back – after all, it didn’t really get a fair chance in the first place. The show was great and was just on the wrong network at the wrong time. Plus, there’s tons of fans out there as well as a whole new generation of people who may fall in love with the Tick as much as my generation did. It would be a pretty unique situation – there aren’t too many shows I can think of that have taken a 13 year break, but hey anything can happen. Futurama and Family Guy both made comebacks thanks to fan pressure, so this may happen.

In a world full of endless and over the top super hero blockbusters, the return of a simple and funny hero like the Tick would be a welcomed change.
