World Goth Day?!

Unless you’ve been living in a cave (or especially if you’ve been living in one), you probably celebrated World Goth Day a couple of days ago. According to www.worldgothday.com, May 22 is “a day where the goth scene gets to celebrate its own being, and an opportunity to make its presence known to the rest of the world.” Um, we need a day for this?

The site features tips on hosting a successful WGD event in your town, a forum for Goths worldwide to discuss everything; from the Goth Day Awards to the burning question of “Are you a true Goth?”

The aforementioned awards feted the likes of Sisters of Mercy and Fields of the Nephilim but somehow managed to exclude Goth godfathers, Bauhaus. Neil Gaiman was named “Best Author” by the goths of the internet who took a break from shadowdancing and choosing new coloured contact lenses to vote for their fav’s.

A possible suggestion for next year’s festivities would be to change the name to “World Goth Night” because, c’mon, how often do Goths emerge from their stygian lairs before the rise of the moon? Exactly.
