Neill Blomkamp to Direct ‘Alien’ Sequel!
Variety has confirmed that Fox has sealed a deal with District 9 director Neill Blomkamp to direct the next movie in the Alien franchise!
The director confirmed the news via Instagram (see below):
The news was announced after months of rumours surrounding the next Alien instalment including Blomkamp sharing Fox’s interest and Sigourney Weaver (Ellen Ripley in the original franchise) stating in an interview that she is ready to suit up once more.
The hype for Blomkamp to direct the film came some time around January, when the director shared some of his Alien concept art on his Instagram (see the gallery below). He had created said concept art for an unsolicited pitch.
I mean, if there’s one person that’s qualified to make this movie, it’s Neill Blomkamp. You can see that Ridley Scott and James Cameron are huge influences in works like District 9, Elysium and the upcoming robot flick, Chappie. Funny enough, the latter film stars Alien protagonist and BAMF Sigourney Weaver.
No word yet on when the film is set to go into production and who will star but we are definitely excited for it!
